My First Bird!

Yeah! I finally got a bird to my bird feeder- Its been three months since I put the stupid thing up, and finally, a Bird! I think it was a sparrow. But it was hard to see because the window was steamed up.

Here's the reaction of the cat-

I know, the cat is in color, the bird is not, but that had more to do with where the camera was pointing- and flash. Maybe for authenticity I should have made the cats picture in black and white?

The Sunday Photo Spectacular Almost Weekly Sunday Post

Okay, you all wanted it, and while not one of the 3.5 people who read this blog requested it - I decided to post some pictures (well, I suppose getting a new USB cord for my digital camera had something to do with it)- So, now you get a rather large number of photos, with lengthy explanations, and I expect you all to read carefully, and with great intent.

This is my very first sock. It actually turned out. I spent all day yesterday, and finished it this afternoon. It's doll sized, or rather small baby sized, but it works.

There are a number of mistakes, due to the fact that I am still not that good at knitting (but I'm learning), like for the fact the heel seems to have been all purled rather than knitted. But that's okay. It just makes it vaguely boot like.

Now I think that this sock is not quite good enough for spending time to make a mate, so I think I'm going to stuff it with catnip and scrap material, and give it the cats.

Speaking of cats, this is Oliver. This is the first time that I actually posted his picture on my blog. He's a very photogenic cat, and if you get to see him in profile, he has circular stripes that looks very much like a bullseye. My most current vet called him a "Classic Tabby". Now, last weekend, Oliver got out. Well, maybe its better to say that I thought he wanted out, put him on a harness, he panicked- poof, cat was gone.

After a few hours of searching, of waiting for dusk to fall, than searching for him again, I finally got him back. I am so lucky- after a close inspection, it turned out his claws were shredded and bloody, along with the front part of his paws being scraped deeply. I took him to the vet the next morning, and she said that the claws were the worst she has seen in awhile, and that the wounds were consistent with him being hit by a car. He was sore for a few days, and after that, he was back to his old self. I am so lucky to have this cat back, let alone one with such minor injuries.

This is Bentley. He's my other cat. He is not photogenic, so I don't very often get good pictures of him. His white coat reflects all attempts at flash, so most times I only get a white blur with glowing eyes. Bentley is my wild kitty. I adopted him to keep Oliver company, so I chose one of the more unadoptable kitties at the Winona Humane Society. I've had him for about two years now, and he has really come out of his shell. The first two months I didn't see him, except for a white blur trying to find a hiding spot. Now, he's an outgoing cat (if you know him) who will jump on your lap, willing to make his opinion known if the lap is all taken, or the food bowl is not to his liking, or if he's bored. He's really cuddly, more so than Oliver, while Ollie thinks it's his right to sit on a lap, Bentley acts like it's a privalidge, to be taken away at any time. I think most people who knew him at the Humane Society will be surprised to see how he bloomed.

I love this picture! Its so utterly cat like, and not just because there's a cat in it. This is the cat igloo my mom made me a while back, and Bentley spends a lot of time sleeping in it. When the cat igloo was sitting in the sun, Ollie used to sleep on top of it, squishing the top, sometimes with Bentley inside!

Hallelujah

This is one of my favorite songs. It was covered in the movie "Shrek" by Rufus Wainwright, but it was originally written, and sung by a guy named Jeff Buckley. When I first heard it, I thought it was just beautiful. Then I aquired it, and I actually listened to the lyrics. The song is about love, but in a very cold, calculating way. I was listening to it on my IPod on the way home, and it struck me, this has got to be the saddest song in the world.

"Hallelujah"

Well I heard there was a secret chord
that David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do ya?
Well it goes like this :
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah...

Well your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
And she tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah...

(Yeah but) Baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor, (You know)
I used to live alone before I knew ya
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
and love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah...

Well there was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do ya
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

Hallelujah...

[Instrumental]

Maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelu...
Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelu...
Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

Here Comes The Sun, with Bald Eagle Count

I saw my first spring weather today!

In honor of the sun, All People Reading this blog will spontaneously erupt in the song "Oh Mr. Sun", with fun hand actions. For those you of who don't know Mr. Sun- The lyrics go something like this-

Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Come out Mr. Sun, Come Shine Down on Me.

I don't remember the rest, so I find myself singing the one line over and over and over again.

Also, for my newly instated Bald Eagle Count - its up to three.

Bald Eagle number one- Spotted on my way to work sitting on a Dead Tree.

Bald Eagle number two- Eating something dead in the side of the road- I slowed down, jumped back, than flew away. It was cool.

And Today's Bald Eagle number three- was flying low to the road. I watched it slowly
gain altitude, and then fly away. My guess he was eating something dead on the side of the road, and was using the warm road thermals to get aloft.

Grrr! A Lost Hour!

I am so upset, due to a long drive and not much sleep the night before, I didn't wake up until ten this morning, and then I turn on my computer, it its really 11! Whats up with that! I just lost a whole hour, that I had intended to spend on cleaning my house, and going grocery shopping! Oh well. Thats what I get for sleeping in so late.

At least I don't have it as bad as Indiana- They recently passed a law that Indiana was going to accept Daylight savings time not following it after forty years. But thats not all, the Department of transportation required that some of the western most counties will switch into Central Standard Time, so for a few, its spring back while setting their clocks ahead!
